Arvydas asks about Meditation: There are many, many ways to meditate; or rather there are different techniques and methods i.e concentrating on an object, on a mantra, on the breath etc… these are techniques, techniques are many… Meditation itself is a state of transcending …. You mention and I agree, when we focus on something...there is the “I” that focusses...there is duality! The normal waking/dream awareness is from the perspective of “I”. Hence there is duality. Training to go to the state beyond duality...is: training… meaning: yes there is effort. When we “relax, comfortable and steady…into meditation ((as suggested into Yoga Sutra) the “I disappears”, the conglomeration of karmic forces and conditioning, the persons ( Greek for mask) dissolves as we enter into the space that has no form, into the core - that is meditation. However, when you concentrate on nothing… “emptiness”, you still concentrate; hence there is still you doing it! So it is no difference than the method on focussing on a mantra or object… There is still You…only once that awareness of separate doer dissolves, meditation proper starts. So the key is…whichever way or method you use, to relax your mind, so totally, let go of all thoughts , all limitations, including the limited “I- perspective”; that there is “no one” who concentrates, no one who “meditates…”, no one who repeats the mantra… etc. simply silence, stillness, - meditation happens… The trick… to let go, let go, let go….And that is the most difficult…! |
